Anatomy Of A Birth Mother Search

Birth Mother Search

Finding Birth FamilyBy Chris Maione - OmniTrace Research Department Manager

Our OmniTrace research team accesses multiple resources when we search for a birth mother.  The more information we can develop on the birth mother, the better our chance of finding her and other birth family members.

Here’s a recent case where our client requested that we conduct a birth mother search on his behalf…

Our client was born on the east coast.  One of our OmniTrace contacts–a genealogist– (source #1), was able to uncover the birth mother’s maiden name, age (born in the early 1930’s), and the town she was

Family Reunion Letters

Here are a few family reunion letters that we recently received from some happy customers…

Dear Julie Perkins and OmniTrace,

Oh my God!  Jean and my 3 biological sisters (yes 3 full blood sisters-didn’t see that one coming) are all meeting in Albuquerque for a family reunion.  I am so excited!  We have been emailing each other and sending letters and have talked on the phone several times. It is amazing to me how

Finding People For Free With Help From The U.S. Post Office

Finding People Free | Post Office SearchSome of our more experienced investigators at OmniTrace (we mean our old guys!  :D ) were finding people and lost birth family members long before the Internet was around.  They used some great, free people finding resources that are now, unfortunately, very much overlooked and underused.

The United States Post Office is one of the best resources for finding people for free.  In many instances, when beginning your people search, you will have an old address of the person you are trying to find.  This old address might be:

Social Security Number | Search For Someone For Free

Find Adoptee, Find Birth Parents, ImageDid you know that having the first 3 digits of a person’s social security number (SSN) can help you search for someone for free?

The Social Security Administration (SSA) began issuing SSNs around 1936.  Typically, a person was not issued a SSN until they turned fourteen or thereabouts (usually when they were first employed).  Around 1986, the SSA began issuing SSNs to children as young as five.  Since 1990, SSNs are typically issued to children shortly after they are born.   The first three digits of a social security number reveals the state where it was issued.

How is this important when searching for someone?  We thought you’d never ask!  :)

If you know the first three digits of someone’s social security number and know roughly how old they are you can narrow down your search to a

Adoption Search Books

Adoption Search BooksThere are several good adoption search books that we recommend.  In fact, when OmniTrace / The Search Advisor hires a new adoption researcher or private investigator,  part of their training–regardless of their prior search / investigative experience–is to read these adoption search books.

In no particular order, here are our favorite adoption search books:
