  Search Tip:  We nearly always suggest submitting the minimum amount of information on an inmate to obtain the most comprehensive search results (i.e., If you only input a name, you will obtain a complete list of name matches in the prison.  If you input a name, date of birth and race, and there is a typo in the inmate’s information [such as an incorrect date of birth], you will not receive a good result).  This applies to all searching in general. 

Federal Bureau of Prisons
Search for prison inmates at The Federal Bureau of Prisons online website.  Prison records can be searched from 1982 to present.  There are instructions on this Prison Locator Website to find prisoners released prior to 1982. This website can be very helpful if you are trying to learn if someone has a federal criminal history. 

Alabama Department Of Corrections
This database only contains currently incarcerated inmates. Historical data is not available on-line at this time.

Alaska Department Of Corrections
Since 1998, the Alaska Department of Corrections - Victim Information and Notification Everyday (VINE) has offered a toll-free automated inmate information and notification service.  Find out more at their website.

Arizona Department Of Corrections 
ADC DATASEARCH information is currently being recompiled weekly.  Unverified prison inmate information may be subject to a seven day delay prior to being incorporated into this DATASEARCH. ADC website prison inmate data is not exhaustive. The database consulted to provide information in this DATASEARCH covers over 112,000  inmates who were in the custody of ADC in 1985 and inmates arriving thereafter.

Arkansas Department Of Corrections
Prison inmate population information search.  Search by criminal history and offense category. 

California Department Of Corrections
The California Department Of Corrections no longer has a prison inmate locator.  At the time of this writing, their website appears to be down.  Here is a phone number to call for inmate information:  916-445-6713.  You will need the inmate’s CDC number or the inmate’s complete name and date of birth.  Be prepared to wait on hold for at least 10 to 20 minutes. 

Colorado Department Of Corrections
Their prison inmate locator page is easy to use. 

Connecticut Department Of Correction 
Here is information about offenders currently incarcerated with the Connecticut Department of Correction.

Delaware Department Of Correction 
They do not have an online inmate locator service.  The above link provides their FAQ’s page where you can find information on making contact with a prison inmate.  Here is the phone number to call to determine if someone is in prison there:  302-739-5601

DC, Washington Department Of Corrections
The District Of Columbia Department Of Corrections does not have an online prison inmate locator service.  The above link provides a little information on searching for information regarding an offender’s current custody status.  You may also register to be notified automatically when an offender is released, transferred, or escapes.  Here is a phone number to call for additional prison inmate information:  877-329-7894.

Florida Department Of Corrections
The above link provides much information on Florida inmates, absconder and fugitive information.  Click on the first link on webpage to search for incarcerated Florida prison inmates.

Georgia Department Of Corrections 
Here you can find a prison inmate online, obtain inmate population statistics, find Georgia’s most wanted, and more. 

State Of Hawaii - Department Of Public Safety
Hawaii does not have an online prison inmate locator.  The above link provides information on 6 prisons.  Follow the links to obtain information on incarcerated inmates.

Hawaii is one of only six states in the country that has its jail functions at the State level. Traditionally, jails are the responsibility of county government. The Hawaii Department of Public Safety is responsible for four jails: one on each of the islands of Oahu, Hawaii, Maui and Kauai. Here is a link with more information on Hawaii jails:  Hawaii Jails

Idaho Department Of Correction
Welcome. This database provides information about offenders currently under Idaho Department of Correction jurisdiction: those incarcerated, on probation, or on parole. The database includes a listing of felonies for which an offender is serving time.  The search engine allows you to search by name and/or offender number. Please note that an individual may have more than one offender number.  Names of individuals who have served time and satisfied their sentence will appear - their convictions will not.

Illinois Department Of Corrections
The search function at this site is slightly confusing.  If you have difficulty using the search function, information can be obtained using the telephone.  Offender information is also available to the general public and private organizations (non-state and governmental) by calling the Department of Corrections: 217-558-2200.  Government and Law Enforcement agencies/officials only may call: 1-888-446-9103.  Names of individuals who have served time and satisfied their sentence will appear - their convictions will not.

Indiana Department Of Correction
Searches may be done by last name or by both first and last names.  To narrow your results, searches should be done by both first and last names when known. If you know the offender’s number, searching by this method eliminates one step in the process.

Iowa Department Of Corrections
This and easy to use online prison inmate search. 

Kansas Department Of Corrections
Just answer their legal disclaimer and start searching.  If you think the inmate you are searching for in incarcerated at a Fort Leavenworth Prison, please visit this website:  Leavenworth Area Prison Facts.

Kentucky Department Of Corrections
The Kentucky Department of Corrections provides the information in the Kentucky Online Offender Lookup (KOOL) system as a service to the public.  For facility address and telephone numbers, tentative release dates and parole eligibility dates,  please call the Vine line (Victim Information and Notification Everyday) at 1-800-511-1670.  Doesn’t it sound like we know what we’re talking about? 

Louisiana Department Of Public Safety And Corrections
Their online inmate search service appears to be down for the count. For inmate locator requests, please contact:  Adult Services - 225-342-9711

Maine Department Of Corrections
An online inmate search is currently under development (don’t hold your breath ).  The Department of Corrections receives prisoners after they have been tried, convicted, and sentenced to a term of more than nine (9) months. If they are incarcerated prior to conviction, or sentenced to fewer than nine (9) months, they would be in a county jail. We do not have access to those records. You need to contact the county jail directly.

For public information about offenders who have already been sentenced to more than nine (9) months, send an email to Corrections.Webdesk@maine.gov.

In you, email please provide the following information: 
Full name of inmate
Date of birth
DOC number (if you have it)
Your full name
Your address
A brief statement explaining what information you want and the purpose.  A surprising number of people have the same name. Please include as much identifying information as you can.

Massachusetts Department Of Correction
Massachusetts does not have an online inmate locator.  You should be able to determine a prison inmate’s status by calling:  Victim Services Unit. (978) 369-3618 or Toll Free at 866-684-2846.  Write us if you have a problem.

Michigan Department Of Corrections

New Hampshire Department Of Corrections
This online inmate locator displays the offender’s current controlling sentence and does not show concurrent sentences also being served or consecutive sentences that have yet to be served.  Visit Support Services Bureau Criminal Records Unit for information on how to obtain New Hampshire criminal records. 

New Jersey Department Of Corrections
Just hist the accept button and you will be taken to a form where you can provide information on the prison inmate you are searching for.  Here is a link for you to check out a person’s parole eligibility in New Jersey.

New Mexico Corrections Department
The New Mexico Corrections Department Offender Information provides information about offenders who are incarcerated or on probation and/or parole supervision. You must know an offender’s first and/or last name or NMCD Number to begin the search process.

New York State Department Of Correctional Services
Easy to use site to find a New York prison inmate. 

North Carolina Department Of Correction
Search by name or ID number for public information on inmates, probationers or parolees since 1972.

North Dakota Department Of Correction
At the time of this writing, their inmate locator is under construction.  If anyone should need to locate an inmate in North Dakota, please contact us and we will do further research on your behalf - OUR TREAT! 

Ohio Department Of Rehabilitation and Correction
This site only displays data on those offenders currently incarcerated in an Ohio prison or those offenders who are currently under Department supervision.  Here is a link to find Ohio Death Row Inmates.

Oklahoma Department Of Corrections
This is an easy to use prison inmate locator site.  You can use any field or combination of fields shown to enter your search criteria.

Oregon Department Of Corrections

Pennsylvania Department Of Corrections
Once at this site, if you have any problems searching for a prison inmate, try entering the inmate’s last name only.

Rhode Island Department Of Corrections

South Carolina Department Of Corrections
This is an easy to use website to find prison inmates in South Carolina.

South Dakota Department Of Corrections
South Dakata doesn’t have an online prison inmate locator.  You can call the South Dakota Department of Corrections Central Records office at 605-367-5190 or 605-367-5140 for inmate information.  Here’s a link to a web page with bit more helpful information.

Tennessee Felony Offender Information Lookup
The information available on this Web Site pertains to Tennessee felony offenders who are or who have been in the custody of the Tennessee Department of Correction or under the Supervision of the Tennessee Board of Probation and Parole.

Texas Department Of Criminal Justice
To use the online Texas inmate locator, your web browser must be set to accept cookies in order for this search to work properly. If you have pop-up blocking software installed on your PC, the offender search engine will not produce the requested information. Therefore, pop-ups should be enabled to use this search engine properly. Holding down Ctrl key during search will often enable pop-ups.  Please contact us if you need further help searching for Texas prison inmates. 

Here is a link to the Texas Department Of Public Safety where you can search for Texas Sexual Offenders and Texas Criminal History Convictions.  Note:  Just hover your mouse over “Criminal History Conviction Search” and “Public Sex Offender Search“ and click on these links (the links are a little tough to spot).  Finally, here is a link to find information on Texas Death Row Inmates. 

Utah Department Of Corrections
Utah does not appear to currently have an online inmate locator and are a little ambiguous on where to call to determine the status of an inmate.  We will research this further.  In the meantime, here are a couple of links that might help you out:  UDC FAQ’s and UDC Submit A Comment

Vermont Department Of Corrections
This Vermont prison inmate locate page is very easy to use. 

Virginia Department Of Corrections
This online inmate locator does not provide information on all inmates past and present.  But, it’s pretty darn useful to locate an incarcerated prison inmate in Virginia.  For information on obtaining Virginia criminal records please visit:  Virginia State Police.

Washington Department Of Corrections
This is an easy to use online inmate search page and also has additional information to find sexual offenders and Washington criminal records. 

West Virginia Division Of Corrections
This is a simple online inmate locator site to use.  But, we want to complicate your life , so here is a link to another fine WV inmate locator:  West Virginia Prison Inmate Search

Wisconsin Department Of Corrections
They do not have an online prison inmate locator.  Locations of inmates and related offender information can be found by contacting the DOC Records Office at (608) 240-3750. 

Wyoming Department Of Corrections
There does not appear to be an online prison locator for Wyoming.  Here is the phone number for the Wyoming Department of corrections:  307-777-7208.  Are we getting lazy here? 

Nationwide Sex Offenders - Family Watchdog
Here is a tool to determine if you have any sex offenders in your neighborhood.  It can also be used to locate someone if you suspect they are a sex offender.  We like this Family Watchdog web site for its ease of use and it covers all 50 states.  The data comes from the various state sex offender registries.  Please note:  If you visit the indvidual state offender registries, you might get a little more detail on the offender–but not much more.  You can also sign up on Family Watchdog to obtain an alert if a sex offender moves to your neighborhood.

Here is another National Sex Offender Registry provided by the Department of justice.  We love being redundant!
