Birth Mother Search - Obtaining Necessary Identifying Information-Part 2
Please note: A special FREE OFFER is included at the end of this post. In our prior post, Birth Mother Search - Obtaining Necessary Identifying Information, we mentioned that one way to obtain identifying information on your birth mother and your adoption is to request Non-Identifying Information. Non-identifying information is simply the background information surrounding your adoption. When it is prepared, the preparer typically (but often not too successfully
) attempts to remove all the identifying information. Your non-identifying information might disclose…
- Age information on your birth mother
- Education background of your birth mother
- Her religious affiliations
- Her physical description
- Medical history of your birth mother
- Your family nationality
- Professions of the birth mother and her birth parents
- If the birth mother and father were single or married
- Hobbies
- Why you were put up for adoption
- Ages of the birth grand parents
- First names of grand parents
- Additional historical information
Ideally, it is best to request your non-identifying information from the agency that handled your adoption. If you don’t know the adoption agency, it’s possible to obtain your non identifying information from state and county entities. The Search Advisor is a brand new website. In time, we will be providing posts and pages that detail exactly how you should request non-identifying information on your own. For now, we are providing you a VERY SPECIAL FREE OFFER – Provide us details about your adoption in a comment to this post and we will post back instructions on how you can obtain your non-id. We’ll likely need, at the very least, the following information:
- Name of Adoption Agency
- Date of Birth
- State of Birth
- County and/or City of Birth
The more details you care to post, the better we can assist you. We are looking forward to hearing from you, and we’ll try to write back with instructions in a timely manner.

Comment by Andy Barker on 17 January 2008:
I am searching for my birth mother. I was born in Person County, NC. My date of birth was said to be 04/19/1967. I was told I was born out of wedlock. My mother was in the Peace Corps and her father, who apparently was financially well-off, bought her out of the Peace Corps twice. She tried to get me but then put me in foster homes several times before finally adopting me out as she was told either put me up for adoption or be cut off financially. I have had a wonderful life growing up with my adoptive parents, however they have passed on, I am now 40 and I very much would like to meet my true birth parents and see if I have any siblings. Thank you.

I was born on 12/28/83 and was adopted through social services. My adoptive mother said she picked me up from Lexington, KY. My name upon birth was Heidi and from my hospital bed tag, it looks like my last name was Williams, but I’m not sure. It’s whited out. My birth mother was attending Midway College in Midway, KY and my father was in the Army.
I’d love to at least find my Non-Identifying Information, but I’m unsure how. Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated!

Comment by Karen on 17 March 2008:
Hi,
I was born on 12-19-1965, in Los Angeles, CA at 8:36 a.m. My original name at birth was Laurie Ellen Hammer, and I’m also listed in the California Birth Index under the surname “Saul.” This appeared to be a private adoption, handled by a Beverly Hills attorney named Alex S. Urbach. According to his invoice and my amended birth certificate, it looks like the adoption was finalized on May 10, 1967; this simply might be the date of issuance of the amended birth certificate. The State File Number of the amended cert. is: 65-343543.
It also appears that my adoptive parents had engaged in contact with Vista del Mar agency in Los Angeles, CA prior to my adoption. My adoptive parents are both deceased, and I only learned of my adoption after their deaths. I live in Canada now, and would appreciate any leads you could provide.
Thank you and kind regards,
Karen

Hi Karen. You need to obtain your non-identifying information. Even though your adoption was private, you should still be able to obtain your non-identifying information from the State of California.
Please read this post for instructions on how to get it: http://thesearchadvisor.com/find-birth-parents-california-non-identifying-information/
Once you obtain your non-id, please write us again and we’ll see if we can help you out further.
Best regards,

Hi Karen. One more thing you should be aware, the turnaround time for obtaining your non-identifying information in California can be anywhere from 30 days to nearly a year.
So, patience is a must.
Comment by Kathryn Bero on 27 March 2008:
Oops - spelled the doctor’s name wrong - it was Resek - and I found out he is now deceased from using one of your links (thanks). Do doctor records go somewhere after they die?
Comment by admin on 27 March 2008:
Hi Kathryn. Doctor’s records are typically kept for 7 years after they die and then destroyed. Hope this helps and I’m glad you used one of our links to find the information you needed.
Best regards,
Dana
